Cargo targeted visitors at 12 significant ports falls for nineth straight month in December

Impacted by Covid-19 pandemic, India’s top 12 ports witnessed a substantial decrease in cargo targeted traffic for the ninth straight month in December to 478 million tonnes (MT), in accordance to ports apex overall body IPA.

India has 12 major ports below the handle of the central governing administration — Deendayal (erstwhile Kandla), Mumbai, JNPT, Mormugao, New Mangalore, Cochin, Chennai, Kamarajar (previously Ennore), VO Chidambarnar, Visakhapatnam, Paradip and Kolkata (which includes Haldia).

In the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak, sharp declines were being witnessed in the handling of containers, coal and POL (petroleum, oil and lubricant), amid other commodities.

These ports deal with about 61 for every cent of the country’s overall cargo website traffic. They managed 705 MT of cargo previous fiscal.
