Creating Bridges to Financial Possibility with Glenn Hubbard | American Organization Institute
The gains from trade and technological advance in modern decades have been huge. But the transformation has experienced some downsides, too. These disadvantages have remodeled our politics in the latest a long time, and the economic disaster accompanying the coronavirus pandemic has only magnified them. Defenders of markets have far too typically sought to dismiss the downsides, while populists issue to them as reasons to develop walls of protectionism and regulation. Both techniques are sorts of denial.
Visitor Glenn Hubbard joins us to discuss how we can make the most of the advantages of financial dynamism even though addressing its expenditures. Instead than erecting “walls” in pursuit of perpetual economic protection and security, he argues for a policy solution concentrated on setting up “bridges” that could greater link people who go through from financial disruption to the benefits of America’s no cost-market place process.
Glenn Hubbard is the Russell L. Carson Professor of Finance and Economics at Columbia Business enterprise University and was chairman of the Council of Financial Advisers under President George W. Bush. His forthcoming e book is titled The Wall and the Bridge (Yale University Push).
This podcast discusses themes from Glenn’s essay in the Fall 2020 concern of Nationwide Affairs, “The Wall and the Bridge.”
